Statement of Eligibility     Any adult over age 18 who is unable to shop for food or prepare meals for themselves and has no other reliable means of obtaining their daily meals is eligible. The client must reside in our area of service:  the town of Farmville or within its 15-mile radius. We hope to expand our area of coverage to neighboring counties. We already serve some areas of Cumberland and Buckingham Counties that are near Farmville.

Meal Delivery     Volunteers deliver meals to homes Monday through Friday, between 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. (the exact time will vary).  All clients will receive the hot meal and the cold pack.  Service is available one to five days per week, depending on the client's need.

Description of Meals

    HOT MEAL:  An entree, starch, and vegetable. 

    COLD PACK:  2% milk or juice, bread and margarine, and a dessert or fruit.

Meals on Wheels does not deliver meals on Thanksgiving, Christmas, New year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, or Labor Day.  Holiday meals are delivered on the regular business day preceding the holiday.

Fee Schedule     There is a sliding scale fee for our service, based on ability to pay.  Currently, the full cost of the meal $4.75 per day.  The actual price for the client ranges from $1 per meal to $4.75.  The difference between our cost and the client price is paid for by monies we receive through fundraising and donations.

If fee adjustment is needed, complete the Financial Information Section on the back of the CLIENT APPLICATION FOR SERVICE.  Once the fee has been established, recipients or a designee will receive a monthly bill.  SCOPE/MOW accepts checks, money orders, and cash. 

Service Policy     Need determines the duration of service, which may be short-term (minimum 5 delivery days) or long-term.  Meals on Wheels reserves the right to review, with the attending physician, the patient's continuing need for food.
