Burger King Is Meals On Wheels' Top Sponsor/Donor

Billy Womak of MOW and
Helen Hardy General Manager of Burger King

The Board of Directors of SCOPE/Meals On Wheels has named Burger King of Farmville (owned by Carolina Quality, Inc. of Henderson, NC) as its Sponsor/Donor of the Year for 2008.

Since March of 2006, Burger King has held a special night for Meals On Wheels on the first Thursday of each month. Burger King donates a percentage of its profits on the first Thursday (5 to 9 p.m. including the drive-thru). These funds help to pay the cost of meals for seniors and the handicapped who are unable to fully pay for the service. A conservative estimate of funds donated by Burger King with its special nights would be in excess of $5,000.

"General Manager Helen Hardy and her staff have done a super job with these special nights for Meals On Wheels," said SCOPE/MOW Board member Billy Womack in presenting the award. " This kind of financial and community support is what keeps Meals On Wheels rolling. " As a driver for Meals On Wheels, I know the importance of this service to the community," said Mr. Womack.

"We are able to help folks live in their homes longer and maintain their health. Burger King has been a tremendous help to us. We owe them a Big 'Thank You!' The award is presented each year to a business, group or organization for its sustained support of the Meals On Wheels program in the Farmville area. During its eight years of operation, SCOPE/MOW has been able to deliver more than 142,000 meals.
Previous winners of the Sponsor/Donor award were the Southside Community Hospital Dining Services Staff (2003), ARAMARK/Longwood Dining Services (2004), Farmville Presbyterian Church (2005), Wendy's of Farmville (Catie Food System. Inc.) (2006) and Rochette's Florist (2007).
